Our story

Built from a real problem,
not a business plan

Hi, I'm Ashin. I'm a software developer, and my wife is a nursing student.

Nursing classes are long. Really long. The professors cover dense material at a fast pace, and taking notes while trying to actually understand the content felt impossible. My wife would come home after a 3-hour lecture with incomplete notes and spend another 2–3 hours trying to fill in the gaps from recordings and slides.

“Why can't I just pay for an AI tool to do this?” That was the first thought.

So we tried. We looked at every AI note-taking app on the market. Most of them were priced for enterprise teams and meetings, charging $20 to $30 per month for features we did not need, optimized for business use cases rather than students. The ones built for students were either too basic, offering just transcription, or too expensive for what they provided. None of them gave you flashcards, quizzes, and detailed study notes from a single recording.

The first version

As a developer, I thought, why not build something ourselves? The first version was simple. You could upload an audio file, get a transcript, and generate basic summary notes. It worked, and it saved some time.

But my wife still had to take the transcript and paste it into ChatGPT along with PowerPoint slides and study resources. She would spend hours explaining what she needed. “Make flashcards from this.” “Write practice questions based on these slides.” “Create detailed notes that cover everything.” Every single time.

Then we hit the real problem: AI models have limits on how much text they can process. A 2-hour lecture transcript is massive. ChatGPT would cut off mid-answer, forget context from earlier in the conversation, and she would have to re-explain everything with new screenshots and re-uploads, even though she had already provided the resources at the start.

Building what she actually needed

I started asking her: what would make this actually useful? What's still taking too long? What does the output need to look like for it to replace your manual notes?

After many iterations, we got to a point where she could upload a recording and her course materials, click one button, and get everything she needed. Detailed notes that integrated the slides. Flashcards for review. MCQ quizzes to test herself. Short and long answer practice questions. Essay prompts with model answers. No more ChatGPT. No more re-explaining. No more hitting token limits.

That's when we realized: there are probably thousands of students dealing with the exact same problem.

An honest product, not a startup pitch

Acloom Notes is not backed by venture capital. There's no growth-at-all-costs mentality. It's just me building something that my wife needed, and making it available to other students who need it too.

I want to be transparent: running Acloom isn't free.

Every hour of audio uploaded goes through multiple AI-powered processing stages, including transcription, note generation, flashcards, quizzes, study guides, and more. Each of those steps has a real cost behind it.

That's why we offer a limited free trial rather than an unlimited free plan. The trial lets you see whether Acloom is useful for your studies, while paid subscriptions help cover the cost of running the platform and improving it over time.

This app is not looking for profitability right now. Ideally we would like to break even, even though it might run at a loss until enough students find value in it and choose to subscribe. If we get enough paid users to keep the app going, we will continue improving it and adding features.

We want your feedback

We really want to hear from you: what's working, what's not, and what features you'd like to see. We're planning to create a feature voting system so you can tell us exactly what matters most to you. We'll prioritize new features based on what students actually want, balanced with what we can afford to build.

Thank you for trying Acloom Notes. Whether you're on the free trial or a paid plan, you're helping us build something that matters. Every piece of feedback makes this better for the next student.
